The character “Lamar Silas” in the BMF TV show draws its inspiration from Layton Simon. Lamar Silas, much like Layton Simon, addresses the topic of mental illness and the challenges associated with it. Layton Simon experienced the closure of the psychiatric hospital he was in due to government actions, leading him to believe that life in a slum was preferable to prison.
Back Story
The BMF, or Black Mafia Family, series is rooted in the true story of two brothers who emerged from the deteriorating streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s. They went on to establish one of the most influential crime families in American history. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory’s charismatic leadership, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory’s business savvy, and their vision expanding beyond the drug trade into the realm of hip-hop catapulted them to global prominence.
Their unyielding commitment to family loyalty served as the foundation of their partnership, yet it ultimately became the source of their eventual estrangement. This is a narrative encompassing themes of love, betrayal, and the pursuit of the American dream through thug capitalism.
The BMF
Demetrius Flenory, known as “Big Meech,” and Terry Flenory, also known as “Southwest T,” founded the Black Mafia Family (BMF) in 1989, headquartered in southwestern Detroit. By 2000, they had expanded their cocaine distribution network across the United States by establishing connections with Los Angeles-based drug sources and direct links to Mexican drug cartels. BMF operated through two main hubs: one, overseen by Demetrius Flenory, was located in Atlanta, responsible for distribution, while the other, led by Terry Flenory, operated in Los Angeles and managed the procurement of drugs from Mexico.
