Ariel Helwani, 39, was born on July 8, 1982, in Montreal, Canada. His mother is Lebanese, and his father is Egyptian. From 2001 to 2004, he studied broadcast journalism at Syracuse University. Following college, he worked as a sports production assistant on HBO sports documentaries before becoming a producer for K2 Pictures. From there, he went on to work for Spike TV as the editor of MMA Rated. He went on to work as an MMA reporter for Comcast, NBC, and FOX Sports.
