Robbie Coltrane, born Anthony Robert McMillan OBE, was a Scottish actor, comedian, and creator who died on October 14, 2022. He rose to prominence as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series (2001-2011), as well as Valentin Domitrovich Zukovsky in the James Bond flicks GoldenEye (1995) and The World Is Not Enough (1999). During the 2006 New Year Honours, Queen Elizabeth II awarded him an OBE for his achievements in drama. In 1990, Coltrane received the Evening Standard British Film Award – Peter Sellers Award for Comedy. In 2011, he received an award for his “outstanding contribution” to film at the British Academy Scotland Awards.

Robbie Coltrane made his debut in the sketch comedy series Alfresco, alongside Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson (1983–1984). He co-starred with Thompson in the BBC miniseries Tutti Frutti in 1987, for which he received his first British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Actor.

Coltrane rose to national prominence as crime psychologist Dr. Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald on ITV’s Cracker (1993-2006), for which he won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor three years in a row (1994 to 1996).
