Senator Kajwang Appointed Public Accounts Committee Chair

Senator Kajwang Moses of Homa Bay has been appointed chairman of the Senate County Public Accounts Committee. Kajwang was elected with no opposition. Kajwang will chair the panel for the third time. He chaired the Senate county public accounts and investments committee for two consecutive terms in the previous panel.

Nandi senator Samson Cherargei was elected anonymously as the panel’s vice chair. The committee oversees billions of dollars spent by counties.

“I have been in this chair before and I know that being the chair does not mean a monopoly of knowledge,” he said.

Kajwang stated that he will continue where the previous panel left off. He stated that he will work to ensure that money designated for county development is used properly. Cherargei expressed gratitude to his colleagues for electing him.

“I want to assure everybody including governors that we shall do our work without fear or favor,” he said.

Cherargei previously served on the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee, but it was split in the amendments approved by the previous senate.

It was divided into two committees: the County Public Accounts Committee and the County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee. Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), and Andrew Omtatah are also members of the committee (Busia).
