Renowned Ghanaian Economist, Mr Kwame Pianim has described John Mahama’s ’24-hour economy’ as an unrealistic policy that could be enrolled in Ghana now.

Mr Kwame Pianim speaking in an interview on February 26, 2024 indicated that, Leaders should fume out solutions to the economic challenges Ghana is being faced with currently and desist from bringing out new proposals which is not feasible.

“People are talking about the 24-hour economy but I don’t understand it. What is it?” Mr Pianim further quizzed “We don’t even have electricity for one shift so where are we going to get electricity for three shifts?”

However, Mr Pianim further claimed that, the New Patriotic Party’s previous government, under the leadership of Former President Agyekum Kuffuor initiated the 24-hour economy.

“We started the 24-hour economy. I was a Minister of Finance and we told PwD that all the repairs should be done at night so that traffic would move. But when that started doing that, the managers were refusing to go and supervise because they didn’t have security to go around,” He said.

Mr Kwame Pianim asserted that, the various political leaders should voice out very practical and feasible solutions, which would be the game changer to Ghana’s current economic woes.

“So, let’s think through everything carefully and say what we can do now. There is nowhere in the world that they run a 24-hour economy,” Mr Pianim said in the interview he granted to Joynews.
