Who Is Bobby Flay?
Bobby William Flay, popularly known as Bobby Flay was born on the 10th of December, 1964. He was born to Bill and Dorothy Barbara in New York, United States of America. He was raised in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan. However, he was raised Catholic, attending denominational schools.
Bobby married Debra Ponzek on May 11, 1991. Debra Ponzek was also a chef. They divorced in 1993. Furthermore, Bobby married his second wife Kate Connelly in 2005.
Bobby Flay’s Career
At age 17, Bobby dropped out of school and took a job at Joe Allen Restaurant in Manhattan’s Theater District, where his father was also a share holder. However, his natural ability impressed his boss and he sent him to New York City’s French Culinary Institute.
Bobby later obtained a degree in Culinary Arts and also graduated with first-class from the French Culinary Institute in 1984. He later worked for a restauranteur Jonathan Waxman at Bud and Jams as a chef. Jonathan introduced Bobby to the spicy Southwestern and Cajun cuisine that would become his trademark.
Bobby partnered with Laurence Kretchmer to open Bolo Bar & Restaurant in November 1993 in the Flatiron District. Furthermore, he opened his second Mesa Grill in 2004 at Caesars Palace in Las Vergas. Also, he opened Bar Americain, an American Brasserie, in Midtown Manhattan. On December 31, 2007, Bolo Bar & Restaurant shuttered its doors to make room for a condominium.
On July 2008, Bobby opened Bobby’s Burger palace (BBP) in Lake Grove, Long Island. He established the Bobby Flay Scholarship in 2003.
