Can the Black Stars Bounce Back? Ghana Stays Put in FIFA World Ranking After Friendly Setbacks

Despite recent setbacks against the USA and Mexico during the international break, the Ghana men’s national team’s position in the October 2023 FIFA World Rankings remains unchanged.

According to the rankings released on FIFA’s official website on October 26, the Black Stars are holding steady at the 60th position globally and are maintaining their 11th place as the best-ranked team in Africa.

These rankings mirror the positions held by Chris Hughton’s team in the September rankings. In their recent international matches, Ghana encountered formidable challenges, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Mexico in the first of two friendlies on October 15, followed by a 4-0 loss against the US three days later.

Belgium retains its fifth position but is being closely pursued by a resurgent Portugal (6th, up 2). Spain (8th, up 2) is steadily closing the gap on the Netherlands (7th).

Subsequently, Italy (9th) and Croatia (10th, down 4) follow, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia runners-up maintaining their top-ten status despite recent setbacks.
