Lionel Messi, a national hero of Argentina, has only stated one justification for continuing to play for the team.
The 35-year-old claims that the only reason he is still on the men’s senior national team is because they won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi dominated the World Cup, helping La Albiceleste win the title for the third time in team history.
Messi finished the competition with seven goals and three assists. He also earned the World Cup Golden Ball for his heroics for the second time.
The 35-year-old said he would have left the Argentine team if they had lost Thursday’s friendly match between Argentina and Australia, which ended with goals from Messi and German Pezzella.
