Former captain of the Black Stars Stephen “Tornado” Appiah has stated that he is optimistic Ghana can emerge as the overall winners of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations(AfCON) tournament scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast early next year.

The four-times AfCON champions have been drawn in a manageable Group which has the likes of Cape Verde, Mozambique and Egypt.

The upcoming continental tournament will feature 24 countries and Ghana will be looking forward to ending their 41-year trophy drought by emerging as victors in Ivory Coast.

Despite having a shaky start entering into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a slender 1-0 win over Madagascar and a loss to Comoros, Captain Stephen Appiah has stated that he is optimistic Ghana can win the 2024 AfCON trophy to the surprise of most African football fans.

According to Stephen Appiah, the only thing that can make this dream a reality is confidence. He therefore advised Ghanaians to believe in the current squad and the available assets available.
