Who is David Muir?
David Muir was born on November 8, 1973 in Syracuse, New York City. He was born to parents Roland Muir and Pat Mills. Muir has two younger step-siblings and one older sibling.
He grew up watching ABC News’ main program with his family every night, and he credits longtime anchor Peter Jennings as being his biggest journalistic influence.
He graduated from Onondaga Central Junior-Senior High School in May 1991. In May 1995, he then went on to Ithaca College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism magna cum laude.
He spent a semester at the Institute on Political Journalism at the Fund for American Studies at Georgetown University. He also spent another semester abroad at the University of Salamanca in Spain with the Institute for the International Education of Students.

Muir worked as an anchor and reporter at WTVH-TV in Syracuse, New York, from 1994 to 2000 after graduation. He reported from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the Gaza Strip following Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination
His work earned honors from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, Associated Press and Syracuse Press Club.
Muir joined ABC News in August 2003 as the host of the overnight news broadcast World News Now, and quickly rose through the ranks to become the network’s lead reporter.
In 2014, Muir took over the weekday newscast, which was rebranded World News Tonight with David Muir, as both anchor and managing editor.
