Mary is the first Alaska Native to serve in the United States House of Representatives, and she congratulated her husband, Gene “Buzzy” Peltola, on her triumph.

It was also her 49th birthday. She defeated Republican contender Sarah Palin by 3% (51.5% to 48.5%) and will be the first Alaska Native and first woman to serve in the United States Congress. When Mary and her campaign crew learned of her triumph, her husband, Gene Peltola Jr, was in the room with them.

Mary Peltola is married to Gene Peltola Jr. Mary’s husband, Gene, works for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Alaska. Mary Peltola has four children, two with her first husband, pilot Jonathan Kapsner, and two with her second, attorney Joe G Nelson. Kaeli is the name of one of Mary’s stepchildren.

According to Pledge Times, Mary’s third husband is Gene “Buzzy” Peltola Jr, who is of Nebraskan heritage. He works in the Alaska Regional Office for Native Affairs, according to the site. Mary Peltola and her husband Gene live in Bethel, one of the main communities in western Alaska.
