Ian died in Ames, Iowa, on Friday, August 26, 2022. Ian Michael Kaffenberger, the son of Aaron and Courtney (Conger) Kaffenberger, was born on August 22, 2001, in Davenport, Iowa. In 2020, he graduated from Pleasant Valley High School. He attended the University of Northern Iowa for his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Iowa State University as a junior to study business.

Ian has always been a runner and has just discovered a new enthusiasm for weight lifting. He liked hammocking with his friends and going for country automobile trips. Ian was a keen gamer who enjoyed spending time online with buddies on his computer and Xbox.

Ian has spent every summer since he was nine years old at Camp Shalom. He worked as an assistant counselor for one summer before becoming the chief counselor in 2020. He enjoyed his time at camp and felt most connected to God there.

His parents, Aaron and Courtney Kaffenberger of Bettendorf, Iowa, sisters; Josie and Aida Kaffenberger of Bettendorf, Iowa, grandparents; Kelly and Judy Conger of Bettendorf, Deb Kaffenberger of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Mary Conger of Bettendorf, Iowa, are among those who survive.

His cousins Ashlyn and Hanley Schmidt, Prushia and Leone Golden, Avery, Ethan, and Ainslee Olds, Jordan and Kingston Partee, and Parker and Dallas Henness were among his closest buddies.
