According to local law enforcement officials, the gunman identified by officials as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, a student at Uvalde High School has been killed by the police. “When parents drop their kids off at school, they have every expectation to know that they’re going to be able to pick their child up when that school day ends. And there are families who are in mourning right now,” Gov. Greg Abbott told reporters.

This attack took place just two days before summer break on 26th May 2022. The school has 600 students and its classes are from grade 2 to grade 4. Following a briefing from Texas Rangers, state Sen. Roland Gutierrez told CNN Tuesday evening that the shooter purchased at least two assault rifles shortly after his 18th birthday.

During his interview, Gutierrez stated, “He had no problem accessing those weapons.” During a press conference, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott stated that the shooter is believed to have abandoned his vehicle and entered the school armed with a weapon. He went on to say that the suspect allegedly shot his grandmother before going to Robb Elementary.

After engaging the gunman, local officers requested assistance. According to a Border Patrol source, a tactical unit responded to the scene and one of its agents shot and killed the suspect. According to Uvalde Consolidated School District Superintendent Hal Harrell, graduation for the local high school has been postponed for the time being.

He made the remarks during a second press conference on Tuesday. Following the shooting, Harrell clarified that the school year has ended and that all other events have been canceled. Grief counseling will be available for students and their families beginning Wednesday morning at the local civic center, according to Harrell.
