Former Black Stars midfielder, Laryea Kingston has issued a fair warning to players of the senior national team of Ghana cautioning against being complacent and underestimating teams that are considered as minnows in the AfCON tournament.
The Ghanaian team is preparing to face the likes of Mozambique, Cape Verde and Egypt as they have been drawn in Group B alongside the aforementioned teams in the upcoming African Cup Of Nations (AfCON) tournament to be held in Ivory Coast.
Despite being considered as favorites of their group, Laryea Kingston has cautioned the Black Stars to avoid complacency as there are no minnows in modern football.
The talented ex-Black Stars midfielder stated emphatically that there are no underdogs in modern football, citing the upsets teams like Central African Republic and Comoros have caused the Ghanaian team in recent years.
Adding to this, he stated that these so-called minnows underestimated by the Ghanaian team, are specially trained to resist pressure and upset top-class African football teams.
Talking on losing to minnows, the Black Stars have lost Comoros in their previous two encounter with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers played a few weeks ago being the most recent defeat tasted by the Black Stars team.
The Ghanaian team lost by a slender 1-0 scoreline pushing them to the third place spot on the World Cup qualification.
Similarly, the Comoros Island national team shocked football fans during the 2021 AfCON tournament after beating the Black Stars in their final group to ensure they exit the tournament at the group stages of the competition.
