What are the items needed for engagement list? These items are to be provided:

  • Head drink: This is referred to as “tiri nsa” among the Akans. It is usually wine or whiskey.
  • Bottle of schnapps or whiskey
  • Traditional wax print: six pieces of traditional print is to be given to the bride.
  • Bride price: this includes some money and items to be given to the bride’s family. The items are determined by the taste of the family and the personal preference of the bride.
  • Money and a pair of sandals for the bride’s mother.
  • Bottle of whiskey for the bride’s father: some include money and a piece of cloth
  • Akontaseka: this is the money to be given to the bothers of the bride or her cousins if she has no brother.
