Ghanaian woman Afua Asantewaa is being celebrated by former President John Dramani Mahama for her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.
Mahama noted that her effort has brought positive global attention to Ghana and highlighted the strength, agency, and drive of Ghanaian women. Asantewaa is currently undertaking the singing marathon at Akwaaba village, intending to surpass the 105 hour record set by Sunil Waghmare of India in March 2012.
She has been continuously singing back-to-back Ghanaian songs in her quest to claim the new record and put Ghana in the Guinness Book of World Records. Mahama commended Asantewaa for her perseverance and expressed pride in her representation of Ghana on the global stage.
“Afua Asantewaa, a young Ghanaian woman, is on her fourth day of attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest Sing-A-Thon. She has some 25 hours left to break the existing record and her tenacity is worth celebrating.
“Her effort has brought global attention to Ghana and a chance to showcase the strength, agency, and industry of Ghanaian women,” the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wrote on his X platform.
