Minister for works and housing, Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye provides details of 1,105 Ghanaians benefiting from Government’s National Rental Assistance Scheme.

On Tuesday, 7th November 2023, the sector minister for works and housing shared the success story of government’s policy design to curb the housing deficit in the country.

Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye said that, six out of the sixteen regions in Ghana, i.e, Northern, Bono-east, Eastern, Western, Ashanti and Greater Accra region. Some 1,105 active workers has benefited both in the formal and informal sector for which government has disbursed a sum of GH¢13,785,597.

In response to inquiries made by Hon Andrew Dari who requested for how much it’s costing the tax payer for the rent assistance scheme to be launched.

“Mr speaker, overall, the ministry expended a total cost of GH¢900,000 on the pre-implementation activities and official launch of the scheme,” Hon Asenso-Boakye stated.

Further, the member of Parliament for Tamale-North, Hon Alhassan Suhuyini asked whether government after 2016 amended, re-stated and effected payment of any amount to the construction OAS Ghana limited for the construction of the Saglemi housing project.

In addressing the matter, the minister decided to refrain from the question as he indicated that the case is in court and would prefer not to pass any comments which would seem to be pre-judicial.

“Mr speaker i kindly request a referral in addressing the question at hand as this may prejudge the outcome of the proceedings.

“I assure the house that when the court reaches the verdict on the case, I will be very happy to come back and provide a response,” Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye said.
