Democracy to a larger extent, has failed to deliver it primary function of emancipating Africans from slavery and serving them with total liberation
The system of governance which focuses on all power and authority being used in administering a sovereign jurisdiction, solely vested in the people is democracy.
Therefore, democracy should be a system of government where institutions functions according to all the processes spell out in the constitution which contains the well laid out proceedings for which all institution must conform to as norms.
Plus, every democratic dispensation walks in the route of the Rule of Law and conforming accordingly to the laid down proceedings of the three arms of government, which is, Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary playing significant role.
However, in as much as democracy comes with the above manual, Africans in accepting this great system of governance over looked the importance of their tradition or culture.
The African culture has failed to accommodate democracy and hence, it has created a vacuum which allows the democracy not to be fully meted out as a proper system of governance for the larger population.
All fingers in Africa points to the fact that, democracy has been of more harm than helpful to the entire African populace.
Democracy in Africa has rather created a system which permit leaders who have been given power to become vessels of imperialist and neo-colonialist who serve as puppet to the western world.
Solutions to Africa’s failed system of governance:
(1) African leaders should venture in a proper constitutional reforms
(2) Various African cultures should be taken through constitutional proceedings, whether it does not infringe on the fundamental human rights of people
(3) The educational system should be restructured to meet the demands Africans
Africa has all the requisite resources to become the number one producers of all raw materials, semi-finished and finished products in the world hence, making it people totally liberated from Economic colonisation.
