Ghana is reportedly set to face the 2022 World Cup champions, Argentina, in an international friendly on March 26, as per a report by Joy Sports. The match against Lionel Messi’s team aims to help keep the Black Stars in form for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.

However, Ghana currently finds itself without a coach after the dismissal of Chris Hughton following a disappointing AFCON 2023 campaign. The Ghana FA’s statement mentioned the dissolution of the national team’s technical team by the Executive Council.

Hughton, appointed in February 2023 as Otto Addo’s replacement, faced challenges during his tenure. The Black Stars struggled, winning only four of 13 matches in the past 11 months. Additionally, Ghana endured a winless streak of five matches, including a defeat to Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The final blow came with Ghana’s dismal exit from the 2023 AFCON, where they failed to secure a victory in a group featuring Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. This marks the third consecutive tournament in which Ghana has been eliminated in the group stage, encompassing two AFCONs and the World Cup.
