Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, was dismissed on Tuesday following the team’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite a 2-2 draw with Mozambique, Ghana finished third in Group B, dashing any remaining hopes for a spot in the last 16.

The Ghana Football Association announced Hughton’s immediate removal and the dissolution of the Black Stars’ technical team. Hughton, with Ghanaian roots, had taken charge in March but faced scrutiny after losing to Comoros Islands in a World Cup qualifier.

The team’s underwhelming performance in the Cup of Nations further led to his departure. The Association will soon outline plans for the Black Stars’ future.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect. The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars,” said a statement.
