Logan Holgate, a Hensingham ARLFC player, died on January 11, 2023, at the age of 18. He was a member of England’s Lions Community squad, which just won the European Championship in Italy.
On Wednesday, January 11, the Rugby Football League (RFL) announced that he died “suddenly.” Logan was expected to go up to the reserve team this season after playing for our U18s route alongside @hensingham arl.

Logan Holgate biography
Logan Holgate was named a “future star” by the press. He first drew notice in 2021. In a win over Wales at Colwyn Bay, he made his Lions debut for the Under 16s.
Logan Holgate played for Salford’s under-18 team before being named for the England Community Lions under-19 team last year.
He wasn’t long before he was firmly in the plans of the Under 19s selectors, first excelling in trials and then reaching the final touring squad that made history in Italy last September, thanks to his increasing club form.
Logan remained on the field for the whole six-game qualification day in Italy, impressing teammates and staff alike with his work ethic, contagious excitement, and quick wit.
“He then excelled in the semi-finals and final, as the Lions swept past Wales before overcoming France to win the Under 19 European Championships for the first time.”

Logan Holgate Cause of Death
Logan Holgate’s cause of death was not revealed. “Everyone at Salford Red Devils is sorry to learn about Logan Holgate’s unexpected passing,” a Salford Red Devils spokeswoman said on Twitter.
“It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of one of our youngsters Logan Holgate,” the Hensingham club announced.
“Logan has been with the club since he was young and has been playing since our open age and under 18s this year.
“We would like to place on record our condolences to the family and friends. We are all devastated at the news and will continue to support the family as much as we can.”
England Lions RL said: “Everyone connected with the England Community Lions Programme was saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Logan Holgate.
