Ace Ghanaian radio personality and entertainment critic, Abeiku Santana has described the #playghana agenda as a senseless agenda.

Explaining further on his reasons for making such a declaration, Abeiku Santana stated that there should be a distinct strategy to promote locally produced songs in Ghana, which shouldn’t include avoiding the promotion of foreign songs in order to push only Ghanaian music.

The ace Ghanaian radio show host indicated that if Ghanaians restrict themselves to promoting only Ghanaian music, then other countries will also concentrate on promoting their songs which means Ghanaian musicians cannot break boundaries with their music since every country will be promoting its local songs.

According to him, he prioritizes and appreciates Ghanaian music and musicians a lot. However, his love for local musicians doesn’t mean Ghanaians shouldn’t promote songs from Nigeria and foreign countries.

He reiterated that though he likes to play Ghanaian songs, he doesn’t play them out of interest. Rather, he plays them because that is what listeners enjoy listening to.

Declaring his stance on the recently introduced music initiative, Abeiku Santana said if the creative arts industry wants to grow Ghanaian music, it doesn’t mean they should play 99% local songs.

Furthermore, he stated that once we do that, Ghanaian musicians cannot also go international because these foreign countries will also prevent the promotion of Ghanaian songs in their country.

He said though he doesn’t want to create any controversy with his assertion, he feels the #playghana agenda doesn’t really make sense.
