PSG star, Kylian Mbappe wins league’s best player award for the 3rd time

On Sunday, May 15, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé won the Ligue 1 player of the season title for the third time. This season, the 23-year-old had an outstanding season in France’s top flight, scoring 25 goals and giving 19 assists as PSG won yet another league title.

The Frenchman earned the prize over Rennes’ Martin Terrier, Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder, Marseille’s Dimitri Payet, and Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta. Mbappe won the prestigious accolade, which was presented by Thierry Henry, for the third consecutive season.

Mbappe, whose contract at PSG expires next month, said he didn’t want to announce his decision during the ceremony but added “Yes, pretty much” when asked if he’s decided whether to stay or depart.

In another category, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was named the best French player abroad, while PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was named goalkeeper of the year. Bruno Génésio was named manager of the year following an outstanding season at Rennes, who remain in contention for a Champions League spot after defeating Marseille yesterday night. He won the prize over Antoine Kombouaré (Nantes), Jorge Sampaoli (Marseille), Julien Stéphan (Strasbourg), and Christophe Galtier (Nice).
