Tom Selleck was born on January 29th, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, U.S., to Robert Dean Selleck (father) and Martha Selleck (mother). His dad was an executive and a real estate investor whilst his mother served as a loving housewife.
Tom Selleck began his career in college, where he made his first television appearance on “The Dating Game” in 1965 and 1967. He enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College, which he later transferred to the University of Southern California and subsequently studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
The 78-year-old veteran has appeared in more than fifty (50) movies, television series and commercials working with several popular brands in the US since his famous role in Magnum, P.I. television series. His roles as a private investigator in the television series Magnum, P.I. which aired from 1980 to 1988 for eight (8) seasons earned him five (5) Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, which he won in 1985.
Before gaining the spotlight in his lead role in the popular television series (Magnum, P.I.), Tom Selleck joined the army with the California National Guard, where he served in the 160th Infantry Regiment from 1967 to 1973 as a sergeant.
Aside from his love for acting, Tom Selleck also showed interest in firearms, which earned him roles in cowboy movies. Being a passionate outdoor person, he became known for being a part of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and eventually served as their spokesman.
In 2005, Tom Selleck has featured in nine (9) television-made series movies as Jesse Stone (troubled police chief of a small town) based on Robert B. Parker novels. Subsequently, in 2010, he played the role of New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in a drama series, Blue Bloods on CBS.
Since 2010, Tom Selleck has appeared in many television movies and commercials and once served as a television commercial national spokesperson for American Advisors Group (AGG) for its premiere commercial campaign which aired across national and cable networks including CBS and ABSC.
