Willie Jackson

Willie Jackson is a Labour politician and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Mangere in the 2017 general election. He was also a presenter on Radio Live, and has been a columnist for New Zealand Herald and TVNZ.

Jackson is a member of the Labour Party and has served as its spokesperson on social development, children, and employment. In addition to his political career, he is one of the co-hosts of The AM Show which airs on TVNZ 1 weekdays from 6am to 8am.

Jackson became a member of the Mori party Mana Motuhake, which was a member of the Alliance. He ran for Parliament in 1996 but was defeated.

In the 1999 election, he was elected as an Alliance list MP. In 2001, Jackson successfully challenged Mana Motuhake leader Sandra Lee for the party’s leadership.

Jackson led the Mana Motuhake party from 2001 to 2004, when the majority of its members merged with the Mori party and the party was abolished.

After the Alliance began to disintegrate in 2002, Jackson joined Laila HarrĂ© and Matt McCarten’s faction and remained with the party when Jim Anderton launched his breakaway group.
