Former Manager of the Black Stars, Coach C.K Akonnor has risen to the defence of Coach Chris Houghton with indications players sometimes make the job difficult for coaches by not listening to instructions given to them prior to matches being played by the team.

C.K Akonnor posited that players must also take some responsibility while opining to the fact that players often feel reluctant to obey Instructions given to them by coaches.

His comments came after the numerous backlashes targeted at the current Black Stars coach Chris Houghton, in line with the poor performance exhibited by the team in recent matches.

Coach Chris Houghton has been lambasted by most Ghanaian football fans following a poor run of form that has seen the Black Stars win only a single game out of the four recent matches played this year.

In November, the Black Stars suffered an astonishing 1-0 defeat to Comoros Island in a match which could have ended in a win or at least a draw for the Ghanaian team.

C.K Akonnor, who managed the Black Stars team from 2020 to 2021, has stated that he feels the current Black Stars needs more time to transform the national team and get the best out of the current crop of players.

In line with his petition, he urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be patient with Chris Houghton adding that players also need to instill discipline by listening to instructions given to them by the technical team.

He reiterated that, usually the coach is solely blamed for the team’s inability to perform which is one thing that is quite understandable.

However, there are certain instances where players feel reluctant to follow orders given to them by coaches and this, according to him, makes the job very difficult for team managers.
