The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Okraku has urged Ghanaians to support the Black Stars to victory at the upcoming African Cup Of Nations (AfCON) tournament scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast early next year.
The senior national team has faced massive criticisms from fans across the country in line with their recent performance in both friendly games and competitive matches.
Though the team failed to live up to expectations in the previous edition of the continental tournament after being knocked out at the group stage level of the competition, they are poised to the country’s 41-year trophy with a successful triumph over every team in next year’s competition.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the GNA Sports, the GFA President said though the Black Stars didn’t perform well at the previous tournament, he is looking forward to seeing a more improved performance in the upcoming tournament.
He reiterated that he feels the support of Ghanaian football fans will go a long way in helping the team perform better at the upcoming continental tournament.
Adding to this, he stated that since next AfCON tournament will be hosted in a country that is very close to Ghana(Ivory Coast), he is calling on all Ghanaians to supportive of the Black Stars.
Ghana has been drawn in Group B against the likes of Cape Verde, Mozambique and seven times AfCON champions Egypt.
Inferring from recent performance of the Ghanaian team, one thing that is likely to happen is the possibility of the team sailing through to the knockout stages.
However, the possibility of making to the semi-finals or finals of the upcoming AfCON competition still remains a huge topic for discussion inferring from the way the team has performed in recent tournaments they’ve participated in.
