Burna Boy, a well-known singer from Nigeria, won the “Best International Act” prize at the 2023 BET Awards, which took place on Sunday night in Los Angeles, California.
The ‘Last Last’ crooner defeated French singer Aya Nakamura, British superstars Ella Mai, Stormzy, and Central Cee, as well as his native Ayra Starr to win the award.
Burna Boy’s victory increased his record for receiving the most awards in the “Best International Act” category of the BET Awards (4).
According to Xorlali.com, Burna Boy won the prize in 2019 as well as in 2020 and 2021.
Davido was the first winner of the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” category, which was introduced in 2018 and has since only been won by Nigerians.
Tems, a rising star in Nigerian music, was named “Best International Act” the previous year. Asake, a Nigerian singer, last night lost the “Best New International” prize to Libianca, a Cameroonian singer.
