The current Head coach of the senior national team of Ghana, Chris Hughton has expressed optimism in the chances of his team winning the 2023 AfCON trophy in Ivory Coast.
According to Chris, the Black Stars are among the list of African teams that could end up winning the highly coveted trophy in the upcoming continental tournament.
The Ghanaian team hasn’t performed to well in recent matches which plays them in a highly disadvantageous position of winning the trophy.
Divergent to this fact, Chris Houghton, who led the Black Stars to qualification for the upcoming tournament has stated that he believes are top favorites for the competition.
He reiterated that aside, Ghana, there are a lot of strong team like Cameroon and Morocco, and its obvious that they are being considered favorites because of what they’ve done in the previous editions of the tournament.
Nonetheless, he would also like to top Ghana as a potential winner of the trophy because they are very close to the host and as such they will bring in massive support to ensure they end the 41-year AfCON trophy drought.
The Black Stars of Ghana will play against Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in the first, second and third Group B game respectively, and once they managed to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, they will be anticipating on winning the the trophy for the fifth time in the history of African football.
