Former defender of the senior national team of Ghana, Sammy Kuffour has stated that he is optimistic the Black Stars of Ghana can at least, make it to the semi-final stage of the upcoming African Cup Of Nations (AfCON) tournament scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast early next year.

The Black Stars team performed abysmally at the previous edition of the AfCON exiting the tournament at the preliminary stages of the competition.

Divergent to the fact that most fans perceive Ghana to be a weak contender in the upcoming continental tournament, Sammy Kuffour has come out to state that he believes the Ghanaian team could pull a surprise by making it to the semi-finals of the football competition, adding that a quarter final finish is also possible.

According to Sammy Kuffour, Ghanaian players usually perform very during competitions like AfCON hence he wouldn’t be surprised to see Black Stars end up at the quarter final or semi-final of the upcoming tournament.

Ghana has failed to win the AfCON trophy after managing to get to the finals of the African tournament in 2010 and 2015.

Having been recognized as one of the powerhouse of African football, the West African giants will be looking forward to changing the narrative by doing whatever it takes to win the trophy in Ivory Coast early next year.

The Black Stars of Ghana have been drawn in the same group with top-class African teams like Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde.

Being considered favorites to progress to the knockout stages of the competition, Ghana will have to win at least two of their group games to ensure their dream of making it out of the group is actualized.
