The Member of Parliament for South-Dayi constituency, Hon Rockson Dafeamekpor has quizzed government for more clarity with respect to the contract which was awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Ghana limited (SML) by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on behalf of the government.

According to the honourable minister for finance, Mr Kenneth Ofori-Atta on the 22nd of June, 2023 issued a letter stipulating the importance of government supervising the exports of Oil and Gold hence, in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) signed a contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited to manage the said industry.

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited have their principal mandate as auditing of downstream petroleum products and focusing on the trade transaction policy and business process audits.

Therefore, the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority inked a contract worth USD$75 million with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited in order for adequate monitisation in the Oil and Gold export.

However, legal practitioner Mr Dafeamekpor is requesting for more clarity from government as he claims the said contract is opaque and he is of the view that, the work being done by the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited isn’t corresponding to the amount government is paying for their services.

“The MoF and the GRA have given a contract to an entity called SML who, we are told by industry players, do practically nothing and yet get paid obscene fees in excess of $75 million in a year. Efforts to get the MoF to come and explain to Parliament exactly what this SML does for government have proved futile,” Hon Rockson Dafeamekpor stated.
