Nafissatou “Nafi” Thiam was born in Brussels, Belgium, on August 19, 1994. She is a multi-event expert and a Belgian athlete. At the young age of seven, Thiam started participating in sports, and in 2009, at the age of 14, she won her first national age group championship.
Carolina Kluft, a Swedish heptathlete, served as her role model. Roger Lespagnard is her coach at the moment. The University of Liège awarded Thiam a geography bachelor’s degree. She takes part in athletic competitions for the Royal Football Club Liège.
She has won two Olympic gold medals and is the only athlete from Belgium, regardless of gender, to successfully defend an Olympic championship.
She also holds the distinction of becoming the second woman, after Jackie Joyner-Kersee, to capture back-to-back heptathlon Olympic titles. Thiam represents UNICEF Belgium as a Goodwill Ambassador.
