Zakes Bantwini Biography

Zakhele Madida (born May 26, 1980), better known by his stage name Zakes Bantwini, is a South African musician, record producer, and entrepreneur. KwaMashu F-section in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He has collaborated on the song “Juju” with fellow singer Black Coffee.

Zakhele Madida grew up in KwaMashu F-section, KwaZulu-Natal. He attended Shayamoya Junior Primary School before moving on to Nqabakazulu High School. He had his first child when he was 14 years old. Despite the difficulties of being a teen father, he completed his matriculation.

After matriculating, he went on to study at Natal Technikon (now known as Durban University of Technology), where he earned a national certificate in Light Music and founded his own record label, Mayonie Productions while finishing his final year.

Madida graduated with a diploma in jazz and music performance from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban. He also pursued a Social Entrepreneurship degree. His single “Clap Your Hands,” featuring Xolani Sithole, was released in April 2011.

Madida released her studio albums The Fake Book and Real Book: My Music Bible in 2013. The CD was nominated for Best Dance Album at the 20th SAMA Awards the following year. Love, Light & Music 2 was released on June 23, 2017.

Bantwini remixed Lauv’s single “Modern Loneliness” in 2020. He teased his single “Osama” alongside Kasango at the Kunye Event. The song was supposed to be released on September 17, 2021. On September 2, 2021, it was announced that the release date of “Osama” has been pushed back to September 10, 2021. His single “Osama” featuring Kasango was released on September 10.

He headlined Miss South Africa 2021 in late 2021. Zakes’ third studio album, Ghetto King, was released internationally in early December 2021. Music critics gave the album good reviews. Khetha, BlaQRhythm, DeeTheGeneral, Drega, Karyendasoul, Mthunzi, Nana Atta, Nomkhosi, Skillz, and Skye Wanda are among those featured.
