He was the primary college basketball analyst on NBC and CBS for 34 consecutive Final Fours. Packer was also well-known as a color analyst for college basketball coverage on television, where he worked for over three decades.
He returned to Putt-Putt Professional Putters Association television broadcasts as a color commentator. Packer referred to the 1982 PPA National Championship, which featured four future Hall of Fame players among the eight contestants.
He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, the Wake Forest University Hall of Fame, and the National Basketball Hall of Fame’s Curt Gowdy Award.
Parker was a well-known sportscaster and published author who received numerous honors, including the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality/Analyst. He passed away on January 26, 2023.
