Top 10 Nigerian Players to look out for this season.

The 2021/2022 football season has kicked off and these are the Nigerian players to look out for based on their performance in the previous season

1.Alex Iwobi

The first on our list is the Everton FC midfielder,Iwobi. He began his football career in Arsenal but transferred to Everton in 2019 after his contract with Arsenal expired.

The 25 years old has since made 68 match appearences in Everton ,with 5 goals and 5 assist. Iwobi joined the super eagles his national team in 2015,making his debut in the club by replacing Ahmed Musa in the friendly match against DR Congo in 2015,and he has since played fo the team in both the 2018 FIFA world cup and the 2019 Africa cup of nations.

For the EFL cup last season,he played in 3matches, clinching 1goal and I assist. He has played 1match this season with 1goal and 1assist.

Everton’s number 17 wasn’t left out in the premier league, appearing in 30 matches last season scoring a goal and 1 assist. Iwobi started this premier league season on a good note, playing in 2 matches with 1 assist.

2. Peter Etebo Oghenekaro

The Watford loanee is set to redeem himself this season,making his debut for Watford in their league opener against Aston Villa.Already he has played 3 league matches this season,1 in the EFL cup and 2 in the premier league.


The midfielder was loaned to Watford from Stoke city his club which had previously loaned him to Getafe and Galatasaray.Etebo joined the super eagles team in 2015. Despite his inconsistency in previous seasons,the 25years old has planned a major come back for this season.

3. Simy Nwankwo

The 29years old Nigerian player is set to dazzle us this season with his skills. He plays as a striker for the serie A club Salernitana on loan from Crotone. Last season Nwankwo scored 20 league goals for Crotone, although the club was relegated later during the season.

The striker joined the Super eagles team in 2018 and has played 4 games for the team. Simy Nwankwo has already made 1 appearance this season in the serie A league.

4 Moses Simon

Moses Simon joined the Nigerian national team in 2015,after playing for their U-20. The forward joined Nantes FC officially in 2020, previously being loaned to the club in 2019 from Levantes.

He has played in three matches in the ligue 1,this season,with 1 assist helping his club score against AC Monaco. The 26 years old is definitely one Nigerian player to look out for this season.

5.William Troost-Ekong

The Nigerian-Dutch is certainly one to look out for this season. He joined the Watford Fc in 2020 as a defender. Troost-Ekong is the Super eagles vice captain and joined the Nigerian team in 2015.

This season already he has made 2 apperances in the premier league fulfilling his life long dream of playing in the League.The number 5 is one of the five Nigerian players in Watford.

6. Wilfred Ndidi

Signed to Leicester city FC in 2017, the 24 years old has since been making waves for himself in the club. Ndidi is said to be one of the world’s best defenders.

Last season has been an impressive one for Ndidi , participating in both the FA cup win and the community watch with Iheanacho, although his club couldn’t make it to the top four finish last season. This season the defender has put his skills on the field appearing in two matches in the premier league. He joined the Nigerian national team in 2015.

7. Kelechi Iheanacho

Another Leicester city player on our list . Iheanacho was signed to Leicester city in 2017 with Ndidi. The number 14 led the club to the FA cup win and the community club watch with his fellow Nigerian team mate Wilfred Ndidi The talented footballer started his club career with Manchester city in 2015 debuting during his welcome tour.He was so part of the squad that won the 2013 FIFA under 17 world cup. This season Iheanacho has dazzled his fans on the field in two matches in the premier league.

8. Victor Osihmen

Osihmen is one of the most promising and most in demand African players. He began his senior career in VLF Wolfsburg in 2017. Known for his wonderful finishing the number 9 joined SSC Napoli in 2020 and has since made 25 appearences with 10 goals in all matches.

He joined the Nigerian team in 2017. Last season he played in 3 matches in the Europa league . One Nigerian to look out for in the 2021/2022 season,the Nigerian has started this season in the serie A league with 1 match although he has a pending two match ban to face. His fans can’t wait for him to come back and wow us with his dazzling on field skills.

9. Paul Onuachu

Onuachu plays number 18 forward in KRC Genk. He joined Genk in 2019, making a total of 61 appearances and 42 goals in the club. Probably one of the highest goal scorers in Africa.

Last season he played 3 matches in the UEFA champions league scoring 1 goal in all. He started this season in the Belgian super cup with 1 match appearance.

10. Taiwo Awoniyi

The number 14 forward started playing for FC union Berlin in 2021. He started his senior career in Liverpool,but was immediately loaned out to FSV Frankfurt and was loaned 7 times to different clubs before he was bought by Berlin.

He joined Berlin officially in 2021 after his loan contract with the club ended in 2020. Awoniyi has played in two matches this season, scoring two goals in the Bundesliga league. Last season he played 21 matches in the league,scoring a total of five goals and two assists.
